Adaptive reuse renovation of a disused seaside industrial building into an accessible, inclusive, and resilient community boathouse. The program includes a community room, locker and changing facilities, and storage for boats and rowing shells. Resilient design measures will be taken to protect the structure in the event of coastal floods from storms and major tides.

Study of multiple sites and existing buildings to assess their viability as the future home for a scene design shop for a university theater department. The preferred option was to reuse a turn-of-the-century industrial building in the nearby downtown. Test fits and visualizations were established for the top-priority sites.

A renovation of the primary hub for design at Syracuse, home to design studies, communications design, fashion design, industrial design, and interior design. The renovation creates a collaborative teaching and learning environment with a diverse array of studios, maker spaces, exhibition and exploration spaces, with a strong communal heart.

edison mill veteran’s housing study

designLAB was engaged to explore the conversion of a former mill building in New Bedford into an affordable housing complex for veterans. The conceptual design established test fits for studio and one, two, and three-bedroom apartments that effectively utilized the mill’s sawtooth light monitors for daylighting, and created community environments.
